How to Tell if LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube or Twitter Are Right For You.
The biggest challenge with Social Media is trying to figure out which of the gazillion tools out there are best for your business. Oh, sure, it’d be great if we could use all of the top Social Media tools to generate buzz, but that’s not realistic. (For an overview of the top 13 social media tools, visit this blog posting on the 60 Second Marketer website.)
So, let’s say you’ve narrowed it down to Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube. Now how do you choose?
This handy chart developed by the 60 Second Marketer will help you choose. It plots out which of the tools are the most professional vs. the most casual and which need the most frequent updates vs. the least frequent updates.
Take a look at the chart and then decide for yourself, which of these tools is going to work best for me? If you can’t update frequently, then Twitter probably isn’t your tool. But if you don’t have video production capabilities, then YouTube probably wouldn’t be right for you.
Check ‘em out and let us know what you think. Is there anything we missed? Do tell.

Your Honor, I object (as usual).
* Facebook is for students and young adults connecting with their friends and allies. Marketers should refrain from polluting it with their predatory commercial agendas.
* YouTube doesn’t require anything more than a no-skill editing application that comes standard on every Mac, a cheap DV camera, and a USB cable. Don’t scare people away with that phrase “video production capabilities.” The rougher the cut on YouTube, the better.

I disagree about facebook being for students and young adults … I am 50 and love facebook! As a national speaker/trainer /consultant I have found facebook a great way to keep in touch with seminar attendees and updates on various industry news. Several companies and professional organizations I work with have embraced Facebook.

Hi, Donna — Thanks for your comment. You make a valid point. Quick question — we’re getting ready to set-up an online video training section to the 60 Second Marketer. We’re paying a very small honorarium to people who become one of our distinguished professors. Given your background, it occurred to me that you might be interested in that. If you want to find out more, contact me at Jamie (dot) Turner at 60 Second Communications (dot) com. Thanks!
